THE BIOLOGY PROFILE OF KINTAMANI DOGS

Sukawana, a village in a distric of Kintamani, Bangli, Province Bali, is area just 5 km from Kintamani. The Kintamani dog also live in this area. The Kintamani dogs is highly popular household pet in Bali. The Kintamani dogs have good appearence, excellent circus performance and make good comapanion. The Kintamani dogs are small to medium size. The dogs stand tall at the withers, bitches 44.65 ± 2.15 cm, dogs 51.25± 4.3 cm. The weight dogs, 15.90 ±1.49 kg and bitches 13.14 ± 2.47 kg. The head is straight. The nostril have a black color. The ears are erect and triangular shape. The eyes are light brown to yellow and ovate in outline and are somewhat obliquely oriented. The tail is sickle shaped. The color is thick, bantly wavy and long at withers, tail and thigh. The color are white or black. The personality of Kintamani dogs are bold, easily to trained and not aggressive.
The Kintamani dogs indicated that dogs as group, estrus cycle throughout the years and slightly increased seasonal activity during the March. The bitches exhibit their first heat average 7.5 ± 0.66 months of age. The length of time from the onset of proestrus to the time of first breeding is usually 9 to 13 days, with an average of 10 ± 0.13 days. The duration of estrus is usually 9-13 days, with an average of 10 ± 1.46 days. The duration of diestrus is 52 to 72 days, with an averages 61.50 ± 5.15 days. Like the other phases of estrus cycle, anestrus varies in length. The duration of anestrus is 105 to 140 days with an average of 124.28 ± 7.01 days. The length of gestation in Kintamani dogs was 63 ± 0.13 days, with variation of 60 to 65 days, with a mean litter size of 4.1 ± 1.02.
The Kintamani dog was identical to the Bali street dog. The Bali street dog and Kintamani dog were most closely aligned with the Australian dingo and distantly related to AKC recognized breeds of Asian but not European origin. Therefore, the Kintamani dog has evolved from Balinese feral dogs with little loss of genetic diversity.
